Jeff City’s first STEM school partners with ISP to become STEMcapable

When the doors opened at Thorpe Gordon for the start of the 2023-2024 academic year, there were serious, but exciting changes afoot. Just the year before, the Jefferson City School District announced that the school had been designated to become the district’s and the city’s first STEM Academy.  Find out how the ISP is  partnering with this team for a successful launch.

Empowering teachers

In 2020, the Institute for School Partnership (ISP) began working with two underperforming elementary schools in St. Louis to develop creative teacher leaders. The results thus far show marked improvement in student performance. Read more about this bold effort to create cultures of excellence for students and teachers.

ISP shares research, expertise in math and science teaching with national peers

Seven ISP researchers and instructional specialists will contribute to critical narratives and professional learning about math and science teaching at two national conferences set for October 2023.

Alex Gerber, Heather Milo, Christi Sanderson, Lauren Ashman and Alexandra Forgerson will present four sessions on science teaching and learning at the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA) Conference set for October 25-28 in Kansas City. Find out more about their sessions.

Rachel Ruggirello and Alison Brockhouse will present ISP’s Research Report, Networked Learning Approach Improves Mathematics Achievement at the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) Annual Meeting and Exposition October 25 in Washington, DC.

Creating communities that engage all learners requires a commitment to students and our region that doesn’t even take a summer break. ISP’s many partners across the St. Louis region showed up to network, learn and grow together for a Summer 2023 of impact.  Across all programs we provided:

READY, SET, mySci! In June and July, educators came together for Summer Institutes on WashU’s Danforth campus. The goal? To ready themselves for another great year of making hands-on science learning with mySci.

STEM IS EVERYWHERE! That was just one of the takeaways for teachers across the region participating in STEM Teacher Quality (TQ), which kicked off with two weeks of action-packed STEM learning. Can you say immersive?

BRING ON THE MATH. Educators from Ritenour and Mehlville School Districts joined the ISP for strategizing and learning at STEM District Immersion (DI) Summer Institute. The goal? Creating equitable learning experiences for boosted math achievement.
