Partnership is more than just a word at ISP. It’s a practice. Our critical work creating equitable learning environments is most impactful when we celebrate the expertise and deep commitment to students demonstrated by teachers, administrators and leaders from schools and districts throughout the St. Louis region.  These professionals are our partners.  We are thankful to come alongside them as we move toward lasting change – together.

Engaging science learning starts with intention and trusted partners

When fifth graders walk into a classroom eager to dive into the next science lesson, something very right is happening, and it’s not magic. Their teacher, Sarah Carter, knows engaging science learning – the messy kind, with hands-on, authentic inquiry – is actually serious business best achieved with attention to detail. Find out how this Rose Acres Elementary teacher has teamed up with ISP instructional specialists, inviting students to make a new kind of sense of the world around them.

Using video as a reflective tool, teachers see and set new goals for themselves

Jennifer Steimel, Lanesha McPherson and four other science teachers at Brittany Woods Middle School in University City are taking a closer look at themselves and one another by participating in Sci314, an embedded coaching pilot underway with ISP’s mySci team. Read about how these teachers are using the process to learn more about themselves and refine their craft.

Encouraged to lead

No stranger to kindergarteners or the classroom, teacher Brittany Stephens was on the lookout for an old-fashioned rotary phone last summer. She was confident that having the clunky relic on hand would help her young students grasp the concepts of then and now. “Being encouraged to think creatively and find the tools I need to bring lessons to life for my students is refreshing,” says Stephens, among teachers from two Saint Louis Public Schools participating in the Transformational Leadership Initiative (TLI), a multi-year effort supporting educators as they establish and refine place-based learning. Outcomes of a two-year STEM learning pilot ISP completed in partnership with St. Louis Public Schools and The Little Bit Foundation are encouraging.

Made possible with generous support of the Bayer Fund, the pilot reached 194 educators and 2,000+ students. This unique collaboration leveraged the expertise of district administrators, as well as third, fourth and fifth grade teachers from 18 schools who co-developed activities to meet the complex and ever-evolving needs of their specific learning communities during the COVID-19 pandemic.
